A Brenner Runs Through It Scholarship Endowment (02-11-2010)

At the Guiding Principles conference on Camp Echo Adventure Trips in LaCrosse in 2009, the "A Brenner Runs Through It" Scholarship Endowment was announced, with an initial goal of $50,000.

Annual earnings from the endowment will cover 90% of the trip fee, and gear costs, for worthy boys and girls who could not otherwise afford a trip, starting with the Boys and Girls Trailblazer trips.

To date, we have received just over $50,000. We have been sending two campers with new hiking boots and a 90% scholarship for their trailblazer trip since 2011. Additional donations to this endowment will ensure scholarship for trips for these Brenner Winners in the summers following their first Adventure Trip.

Neil Featherstone 1932-2009 (08-26-2009)

We are sad to report the passing of Neil Featherstone, age 76, on the morning of Tuesday, August 25th,2009 from complications due to pneumonia. For eleven summers, starting in 1958, Neil was the Camp Echo Director; during the school year Neil served as the Boys Work Secretary at the Evanston YMCA. During his time at Echo, Neil transformed the peninsula, raising funds from families, friends of Echo, and service clubs to build 14 beautiful cabins. Neil also negotiated the purchase of 385 acres of the Lindner property adjacent to camp.

Neil was a man of huge commitment to the YMCA mission, deep understanding of and appreciation for relationships, and a wry sense of humor. His impact and legacy is felt today and will be felt long into the future.
